Bamoi Luma councilors on cleaning exercise
Kambia, Feb. 4 (SLENA) – The Kambia District councilors of Wards 121 and 123 have embarked on the cleaning the main town of Bamoi Luma including the market centre, major streets, religious houses and main shopping centres.
Speaking to SLENA this past Saturday, February 1, Councillor Osman Sabina Kamara of Ward 123 said people come to Bamoi Luma from far and wide on market days (luma), mainly on Saturdays and Sundays to buy and sell their wares but always leave the place filthy with garbage strewn all over the town.
He said since they were elected councilors in those wards, it is incumbent upon them, through the support of the townspeople, to keep the town tidy.
“These market days are very much important for the Kambia District Council,” Councillor Osman Kamara noted, adding that the ‘luma’ brings in the much needed revenue for council and the district as a whole.
According to the two councilors, due to the weekly business transaction, it is but fitting that they clean the town regularly, also for health reasons.
“People sell different foodstuffs around, and the outbreak of cholera related diseases is common here,” said Mr. Kamara who added that certain patriotic citizens have pledged to support the cleaning exercise including a dealer in petroleum products, Mr. S. S. Bah who he said has been helping with fuel.
