Mohamed Bangura emerges as UDM flag bearer
Pulling 259 votes, Mohamed Bangura held a slide in the flag bearer contest over his title contender Madam Doreen Jimmy who scored 32 votes.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) now stands a chance with its emerging third presidential flag bearer to challenge the incumbent President Koroma.
The UDM held its convention in the southern city of Bo. The event had a moment with an upset victory when Mr. Banya of Luwawa chiefdom in Kailahun, a descendant of Kailondo family of warriors, defeated the acting Young Generation Leader and clinched the post.
Mohamed Bangura was driven in an open motorcade across Bo city where the convention was held in pomp and pageantry.
The incumbent President Koroma has already detailed Bangura with State armed OSD Police officers for his personal security, the same he has done for Julius Maada Bio as a matter of state policy.
In the build up to the November elections three legitimate presidential flag bearers have emerged.
The PMDC, NDA, and others are yet to go into the polls to elect their respective flag bearers. PMDC’s embattled leader, Charles Margai is tied up in court with his partisans over legal terms with the party’s constitution.
The National Democratic Alliance have meanwhile disclosed plans to elect their flag bearer in the middle of next month.
