UDM lambasts Charles Francis Margai
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has reacted to statement made by the Leader of People Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) Charles Francis Margai (in photo) calling on all political parties to resist the statement of Chief Caulker calling for the suspension of all open secret societies’ activities come 2012.
This decision was reached due to the mischievous action of certain politicians and individuals thereby warrant the Chairman of the National Council of Paramount Chiefs, Chief Charles Caulker to place a temporary ban on open practices of all secret societies within the confines of the country, so as to enhance peace and people safety especially non society members come November polls.
Mr. Margai’s response to this statement a short while after he viewed Chief Caulker statement has nonplussed a complete disapproval and a muzzling one, thereby advising other Political Parties to desist from this plan as he considered it a ploy by the ruling All People Congress Party.
The letter which was published on the 19th signed by leader of (UDM) Mohamed Bangura, criticizes Mr. Margai strongly for having considered such a statement inciting and one that lacks the true spirit of a statesman, in the exact words of the press release it state “we call on Mr. Charles Francis Margai to rescind his saboteur call on the public to defy and challenge the Authority of our traditional rulers…”
The party argued out that they are aware of the enshrined constitutional right of every person liberty to freedom of speech, but this statement is considered as untimely and seek to undermine the security status of this country.
