Musa Tarawally commissions anti-violence campaign – The Internal Affairs Minister, Musa Tarawally told Kenema residents in the Eastern part of Sierra Leone that President Koroma and his APC led administration are opposed to violence before during and after the November polls. He said peace loving Sierra Leoneans should avoid violence and give respect to ensure continued people’s tranquility in the country.
SLAJ denies receiving money from government – The secretariat of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has issued a release denouncing the claims that the government of Sierra Leone has given them money. SLAJ Secretary General Ismael Koroma stated that they view the latest information linking government funding to the secretariat as misrepresentation. He said some media houses are making attempts to slander the image of SLAJ.
President Koroma inaugurates University Court – The president who doubles as Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone on Wednesday March 14 commissioned the University court headed by Pro-Chancellor Rev. Canon Dr. Modupe Taylor Pears at the Mary Kingsley auditorium on Fourah Bay College campus. The University Court has just recommenced after a recess. President Koroma used the opportunity to challenge University staff to come up with sound graduates and called on an update in the country’s education standard.
More children die in Rokel – Chairlady of Rokel village on the outskirts of Freetown, Iyaminde Beatrice Langley told visiting First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma that they have a serious crisis of infant mortality in that community. She said five babies out of every 10 born in that community dies. A situation she refers to as scary.
Teenagers rape 8 year old girl – It has been reported that Mohamed Bangura and one Fuad gang raped an eight year old girl. This occurred in the Eastern part of the country in Jui on the outskirts of Freetown. Police Commander Thullah is quoted as saying that one of the suspects, Mohamed Bangura has made a confessional statement and both are helping the police in their investigations.
Yeliboya Responsible For Cholera – Coordinator of the whistle blowing health alert organization in Sierra Leone, Victor Lansana Koroma has said cholera outbreak in Yeliboya, in Northern Samu Chiefdom is as a result of the lack of sanitation in that area. Victor said the government should do more in its free healthcare package to salvage the immediate healthcare needs of people in that part of the country.
President Koroma defies SLAJ – Awoko newspaper yesterday reported that President Koroma defied SLAJ’s recommendations to remove the Acting Board Chairman Festus Mina. SLAJ recommended the removal of Mr. Mina because of his political affiliations through his links with the riuling All People’s Congress. This, according to SLAJ represents a specific political interest.
SLAJ has also complained that notwithstanding their position on Elvis Gbanabome Hallowell who is standing accused of corruption allegations, he still continues to head the SLBC. President Koroma also defied reducing the SLBC board’s remuneration by 20% which the association of Journalists advised earlier due to itches in the economy and the existing SLBC staff protests.
Nyuma Breaks Silence – Besieged chairman of the Kailahun District Council, Tom Nyuma told the local media yesterday that he left the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party to join President Ernest Bai Koroma whom he says is developing the country. He said it is his democratic right to decide his political future and no body should question that. According to Nyuma, he is part of development and whatever leader or administration that recognizes development is part of him.
