Shiite, Ahmadiyya and Sunni Under One Umbrella
Various religious sects in the Islamic faiths in Sierra Leone including Ahmadiyya, Shiite and Sunni converged last Saturday 16th March, at the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Cultural Centre, Garrison Street, Freetown where they held fruitful discussions aimed at coming together and speaking with one voice.
The chairman of the occasion Alhaji Issa Catco Kamara thanked the spiritual leaders of the various sects, Imams, and other distinguished Muslim leaders for honouring their invitation at a short notice.
He said the Forum of Islamic Organization in Sierra Leone is committed to stronger partnerships with religious groups and International organizations for the promotion and protection of religious tolerance.
Alhaji Issa Cato Kamara noted that this organization has been holding meetings and over the years developed and build stronger partnership with religious sects (Shiite, Ahmadiyya and Sunni) based on the understanding of the role religious plays in the lives of people.
He said the Forum for Islamic Organization in Sierra Leone is a non–political and business oriented organization and has its primary goal in harmonizing common values of all religions in Sierra Leone and cultures for national development.
The Head of the Ahmadiyya Mission in Sierra Leone Mauvi Sadeeur Rahman said Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was an embodiment of peace and unity and therefore urged Muslim across the world to eschew violence and love another in order to thrive in peace and harmony.
Alhaji Umarr S S Kanu Head of Hezbollah Islamic Mission who spoke on behalf of the Sunni said there is no need to fight one another as we all believe in the five pillars of Islam irrespective of the religious sects.
He said I am a Sunni Muslim but that does not mean I should not talk, pray with the other sects. He said we should all come together and promote Islam.
The Spiritual leader of the Shiite mission in Sierra Leone who is also the grand chief Imam of the Freetown Central Mosque Sheikh Ahmed Tejan Sillah said it is high time we all come together as one religious body that will fully represent the Muslims in Sierra Leone.
He commended the chairman for the organization Alhaji Catco Kamara for his support and cooperation over the years towards the promotion of Islamic unity. Various speakers from different back ground and institutions including lawyer, military officer, teacher, banker, student, journalists and women also gave brilliant contribution towards religious tolerance among the Muslim sects.
The Secretary General of the organization Alhaji Madani Kabba Kamara said the organization is about tolerance and peaceful co-existence for progress of the nation.
