London Mining Actuates Koroma’s Agenda For Change

In a widely anticipatory mood on Friday, 5th June 2010, the Honorable Minister of Mineral Resources and Political Affairs Alpha Kanu alongside several other dignitaries to name but a few, the Deputy Minister of Education Youth and Sports, Deputy Minister of Mines and many more, paid a state call to London Mining Company’s sites at Tawfayim and Lunsar to inspect the work and development being carried out by the company. Setting out for the trip, the Minister of Mines and his dignitaries had excited looks on their faces and indeed the mood was very cheerful and light with the anticipation to see development one only dreamt about which is now gradually turning into a reality, due to the reliability and accountability of LMC.

Upon arrival at Tawfayim where construction works are already in progress for LMC’s barge loading facility on the Port Loko Creek, the officials were welcomed in traditional style by the locals with a song that sang praises for London Mining Company and the current government for their good works and development not only in their chiefdoms but in Sierra Leone as a whole. Clamoring around the Honorable Minister ‘Khan’, the locals and officials of LMC equally urged him to speak anxious for his take.

“I’m impressed beyond expectation.  Last time I was here, this place was just a wasteland. Indeed I am very happy with what I’ve seen, this is great news for Sierra Leone,” the Minister enthused.

He maintained that when H.E President Ernest Bai Koroma came, he set up an agenda promising change. “This is the change-LMC.”

He pleaded for the people to give the government time to wake up the ‘sleeping giant’-Delco Mines that had lain dormant for over 35 years adding that development of LMC means development in Sierra Leone. “Lunsar will be like Pepel,” the Minister vowed. The Director for Geological Survey Mrs. Agatha John added her thanks and appreciation to the Minister’s by saying that she was pleased with the progress seen at the site and that indeed LMC deserves the acclamation and praise.

The project manager Nigel Bright stated that it’s been fun, creating something out of nothing and pleaded with people to be patient and to have an open mind to change and development working hand in glove with the President’s agenda for change. He also explained that they are currently racing against time to complete an 18.5KM haul road from Mammy Nancy to Tawfayim where construction works are already in progress to complete the jetty. Unnervingly as this may sound to some people the project manager and his team just have three and a half months left to get things in place.

The ‘custodian of the land’ – Marampa Chiefdom ‘Pa Shepa’ expressed his thanks and gratitude to London Mining Company and the APC government for daring to invest in such a venture. He said that such a venture signifies courage, strength and above all, love for the good of one and for all. He further enthused that his chiefdom with the help pf LMC become the breadbasket of Sierra Leone.

He thanked the government and LMC for their help in his chiefdom, and stated that 75% of his youths are currently involved in the running works of the project to carry out the production of 1.5 tonnes of iron ore per annum from existing tailings within 12-18 months. The production level will triple in succeeding years and by 2011 it is the intention of LMC to produce 10 million tonnes of ore which will lead to primary ore production.

LMC has also undertaken the job of renovating the Pepel Court Barray, the Lunsar Health Center, undertaking crop compensations based on crop assessment processes involving the impacted community. They have also repaired deteriorated roads in the Lunsar Township, provided mobile machinery for community sanitary needs, assisted schools, hospitals, individuals and a whole lot more.

The Minister concluded by saying that he was satisfied with the work of London Mining Company and added that he supports them one hundred percent. He further thanked them for investing in Sierra Leone and finally concluded by saying that as long as London Mining Company complies with the laws and rules of the country, then all will be well.

It is the wish of LMC that people will be convinced enough to trust and believe in them as the people they appointed like the Honorable Minister Khan has invested his trust in them and they promised that they will exceed expectations.
