The Sierra Leone Police in collaboration with student for Democracy and Peace Society of the FBC have facilitated the signing of a peace communiqué between the two main political groups at FBC, namely the Black and the White family at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Cooperation Studio.
The occasion was broadcast live on television for all and sundry to see.
Presidential candidate of the two camps that is Alfred Minkalu Koroma Jnr who represented the White camp for the General and Francess Marke of the Black family demonstrated their commitment to violence free elections come Friday 28th May 2010. By signing the communiqué Hawa Sesay a concerned citizen and Mr. James Williams’s editor of the Premier News were witnesses to the signing of the communiqué.
According to the director of Media and Public Relations, Supt Ibrahim Samura, the rationale behind the communiqué is not unconnected with the fact that previous Student Union Elections have been marred by violence and acronyms which have led to the campus being vandalized, and the University structure destroyed during the 2008 SU Election.
However the director also mentioned that students of FBC and other institutions in society should be role models who set the pace for a fine and good example for the rest of society to follow as future leaders and they should be the champions of attitudinal and behaviour change, which the president is preaching.
He called on colleges administration to suspend or expel any student who is engaged in any act of violence and intimidation.
