Armed Men on The Rampage: Fourah Bay College Mourns

The ugly incidence of armed men ravaging peaceful and unsuspecting members of the public is not showing any signs of abating despite endless proclamations by the police that they are in control of this volatile trend.  (Photo: Late Santigie Karankay Conteh: victim)

Among the latest victims of this menace is a young final year student in the Faculty of Communication, Media and Information Studies (CMIS) at Fourah Bay College, USL.

Family sources said Santigie Karankay Conteh passed away at the Emergency Hospital in Freetown on Friday 6th August 2021, after a brief period of battling for his life.

The cruel act was executed by marauding armed men on 18th July at his residence at Sumaila town off Hill-Side By-Pass road during an encounter with his killers when he stepped out of the house to ease himself.

“He was shot at three times”, said his elder brother Ahmed Soko Conteh, adding that two of the shots reached him.

Speaking to Sierra Express Media Woman Police Sgt Christiana Nicol said the investigation was on going, and that “no arrests have been made”.

While his colleagues and lecturers are engulfed in a mood of mourning and grief, the remains of Karankay will be laid to rest today or tomorrow 9th and 10th August respectively.
