ZAIN African Challenge (ZAC) advances to semi-finals with more winners from Home Viewers

Zain continues to maintain the lead in not only communications but also development and growth and continues to ceaselessly confirm why they are the leading communications network in Sierra Leone. On April 1st 2010, twelve people emerged winners of the Zain Africa Challenge (ZAC) Home Viewers Game. These lucky people each won a mobile phone worth $600 each courtesy of Zain. The show hosted in Kampala, Uganda and aired on SLBC every Wednesday at 6 p.m. and repeated every Saturday at 8 p.m., and has proven to be a very immense challenge between Egerton University of Kenya and University of Maidugurie of Nigeria in which Egerton University emerged as the winners with 710 points, edging past University of Maidugurie who got 650 Points!

Viewers are rewarded too, with the opportunity to win Nokia N97 mini handsets each week by playing the SMS Zain Game.

Each week, three winners emerge.  The recent twelve lucky winners were chosen from among local subscribers who answered questions at the end of the inter-university quiz competition that was broadcast over the SLBC TV.

To be a winner, one has to answer correctly to questions asked during the game and the answers can be sent to 600 via SMS.  Beloved subscribers can also play the game on Facebook which is equally appealing as each winner stands to win 1,000 units of airtime.

From the start of this season’s challenge, a total of 30 people have won Nokia N97 mini hand sets, Zain Africa Challenge is a powerful testimony of the company’s commitment to the advancement of education and development indeed. People view (ZAC) as a good step with the right foot forward towards growth considering that it educates and informs people especially youths on trivia of the world which is good for development something that Sierra Leone is in dire need of.  The following were among the subscribers who received the N97 Nokia mini-phones:

  • Harold Randall – 076 60 41 38 and
  • Abdul Jero Bangura – 076 60 51 41.

The Public Relations Executive Officer of Zain – Sierra Leone, Ms. June Rose-Johnson said “Zain believes in not just education but a quality, one to ensure a better life, to one and all.” She advanced further to say that the ‘Home Viewers’ participation is greatly needed and should be rewarded in an equal manner as the participants.

She added that Zain annually spends more than one million US dollars on the inter-university quiz competition in Africa.

Indeed Zain must be commended for its support for education as well as its social and community programs aimed at growth and development. The programme is an extension of Zain’s corporate commitment to “A Wonderful World”.
