Victor Foh: No Longer the Foe

Victor Foh: No Longer the Foe

A Look at Our VPs Political Dark Days

There was a time in Sierra Leone when our now appointed Vice-President, Victor Bockarie Foh, was regarded as a public enemy. Foh and other key players in the notorious AFRC Junta were hunted down by the ECOMOG intervention force, arrested and sent to the Pademba Road Maximum Prison where they were awaiting the gallows after being found guilty of aiding treason. Had it not been for the RUF invasion of Freetown on January 6, 1999, when the Pademba jail was broken, Victor Foh and others would have been executed long ago and we would never have got a Vice-President called Victor Foh. After the execution of the 24 soldiers, Foh and others were next to be executed.

In those days of the AFRC, most enthusiastic pro-democratic citizens of Sierra Leone did not want to see the face of Victor Foh. To them, his face on the SLBS TV was a nightmare and he was provocatively called “high-barb”. Surely, Victor Foh would have earlier suffered mob justice like Alhaji Musa Kabbia and Sheik Mustaba had the ECOMOG soldiers not rescued him from the wrath of desperate pro-democratic citizens who were on the rampage burning alive those they felt wanted to assassinate the country’s budding democracy.

After narrowly escaping the gallows, Foh has over the years risen from Secretary-General of the All Peoples Congress (APC) to Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to China to Vice-President of this republic. Today, Victor Foh is no longer the public foe he used to be. Parrot the observant bird has even observed that Foh is no longer having the high barb he used to carry.

Parrot strongly believes that Foh deserves the Vice-Presidency in the APC government by virtue of his manifested unshakable loyalty to the party even in the most trying times. His appointment to the second highest position in the APC government tends to shame the many Sierra Leoneans carrying the erroneous dogma that APC top positions are exclusively for Limbas, Temnes, Lokos and other northern-based tribes.
