Dock Workers Aggrieved … Mass Resignation Looms

Things seem to be falling apart in the Dock Workers Union following a controversial election which left many disenfranchised union members discontented and ushered in a very unpopular executive headed by Alpha Bundu.

Inside sources say the controversial election was severely manipulated by the Labor Ministry through the five man committee which the Minister of Labor, Dr. Mathew Timbo, and the Labor Congress formed to conduct the election during which many members were not allowed to vote, a situation which aggrieved many of the affected members.

Latest reports reveal that many of the disgruntled members have threatened to quit the union and some of them have even started tendering their resignation letters to the Human Resource Manager of the Freetown Terminal Company (Bolloré) which employed them.

In a related development, the aggrieved workers have alleged that Bolore has not been paying to government the income tax deducted from their salaries for the past ten years, further alleging that the company has not been paying their NASSIT subscriptions.

Meanwhile, the Bolloré management is yet to respond to the allegations levied by the irate workers.
