On $2.5M scandal Mines Minister clears the air
The Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Hon. Minkailu Mansaray, has clearly stated that he has never been arrested and handcuffed in Ghana with $2.5 Million as has been widely rumored in Sierra Leone.
The Minister made this clarification yesterday during the weekly Government Press Briefing at the Ministry of Information and Communications, Youyi Building, in Freetown.
The minister explained that he left the shores of Sierra Leone to Oxford University, London on June 7th this year adding that on the 12th of the same month, he received a telephone call from someone in Freetown alleging that he had been arrested with $2.5 Million USD in Ghana and had been and detained.
He dismissed the rumor as unimaginably ridiculous, fabricated by seasoned rumormongers who are hell-bent on besmearing the image of this country which he is serving as a full cabinet minister.
The Minister said he travelled to London along with Mrs. Memuna Pratt, a Lecturer at Fourah Bay College and Mr. Bundu who works for GIZ.
“If I was arrested in Ghana with such a huge sum of money, the Immigration and Ghana Police would have made it big news that would have attracted both the Print and Electronic media in Ghana”. The Minister added that the Ghanaian Foreign Affairs Minister would have invited the Sierra Leone Ambassador in Ghana for questioning. He continued that if it was true, President Koroma would have relieved him of his duty.
