Library ends drama competition
In a bid to promote the essence of the Sierra Leone Library Board to schools through drama the Library has ended its 2014 Annual Schools Drama Competition with theme “The Library – An essential component for the total development of man educationally and socially”.
In her welcome address the Admin Officer and Head of Program Mrs. Theresa Conteh said that the main aim of organizing the drama competition is to attract the public to the library and for children to know about the real essence of the Library as its activities are not only limited to reading books. According to her, the Library is also involved in interactive sessions like storytelling, games, drama etc and can also address moral issues like comportment.
Mrs. Conteh opined that through drama her institution believes they can reach the goal of letting the kids learn faster about the Library Board. She welcomed the participating Schools for witnessing the finals between Tabernacle and J.T Reffell in the primary category and Kissy Municipal and D.T Akibo-Betts Junior Secondary Schools. She thanked the Sierra Leone Book Trust (SALBOT) for donating cartoons of books that were used as prizes to the participating schools.
Announcing the results after the Drama Competition the Chief Judge Mr. Hassan Sannoh said that the judges were very impressed with the performances as the finalists put up a very impressive performance. He encouraged the other schools not to give up as there is hope for them to be amongst the finalists if only they improve their performances.
Mr. Hassan Sannoh disclosed that after they had compiled the results, J.T.Refell Memorial School came first in the Primary Category with 93 points whilst the Second position went to the Tabernacle School with 87 points. In the Junior Secondary Category, D.T. Akibo Betts came first with 84 points whilst Kissy Municipal Secondary School came Second with 78 points.
The program was climaxed with presentation of gifts and certificates by the Deputy Chief Librarian Mr. Brima Kamara and this year’s competition attracted twelve (12) Schools; Six (6) in the Secondary Category namely Kissy Municipal School, Government Rokel, D.T. Akibo Betts, Tower Hill, J.F. Kennedy and Government Model Secondary Schools and Six (6) in the Primary Category Namely Cathedral, Tabernacle, Rehoboth, J.T.Reffel, Tower Hill and Samaria Primary Schools.
