Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone held Signing Ceremony on China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action Project Implementation Agreement
On March 31, 2014, Mr. Fan Xiaodong, Political Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, signed the China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action Project Implementation Agreement with Dr. Bobson Sesay, Chairman of Sierra Leone-China Friendship Society. According to the agreement, the Chinese Embassy will provide support to the friendship society for building four commuter waiting booths in Old Railway line, Bai Bureh Road, Allen Town and Jui junction. At the ceremony, Mr. Fan Xiaodong elaborated on the objectives of China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action, stated that people-to-people exchanges and cooperation is an important component of China-Sierra Leone relations. He emphasized that the Embassy supports the society’s endeavor to play a positive role in promoting people-to-people friendship between China and Sierra Leone.
Dr. Bobson Sesay expressed his appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for supporting the friendship society to implement the relevant project, and assured Mr. Fan that the society will take appropriate measures to ensure the successful implementation of the project so as to contribute to people-to-people friendship between the two countries.
China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action is a follow up initiative of a proposal made by the then Chinese President Hu Jintao at the opening ceremony of the 5th Ministerial Conference on FOCAC (Forum on China-Africa Cooperation) held July 2012 in Beijing to support and promote exchanges and cooperation between people’s organizations, women and youth of China and Africa.
In 2013, the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone concluded three programs under China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action in collaboration with African Kind Hearts, Fifty-Fifty Group, and Sierra Leone-China Young Leaders Forum.
