Krio Union donates to Library Board
In a bid to inculcate the habit of reading and encourage young kids to use the library at all times, the Krio Descendant Union (KDU) of North East United States of America on Monday 19th May, 2014; donated assorted children’s books, chairs and educative games to the Children’s Department of the Sierra Leone Library Board.
In his remarks whilst making the donation, the Social Secretary of the Krio Descendant Union Mr. Christo Davies lauded the relentless efforts of the Chief Librarian and staff for their indelible service to the nation. He expressed his happiness for the way the Library is moving from strength to strength with Libraries now all over the country, and urged them to continue to give their relentless services to the nation.
Mr. Davies recalled his youth days at the Tower Hill Municipal School when he used to visit the Library and promised that his organization will do more do equip the Library so that more students will benefit. He disclosed plans for the shipment of more assorted books, games and chairs which will arrive at the end of the year.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Library Board, the Chief Librarian Mr. Salieu Turay expressed his sincere thanks to the Krio Descendant Union based in the north east of the United States of America for their laudable donations and called on other organizations to emulate the good example of the KDU.
Mr. Turay noted that the first project of KDU was to do the rehabilitation of the Children’s Library but since this was done by the board they decided on making donation by buying assorted books, educative games and chairs for the Library. He catalogued the importance of using the facilities of the Libraries in different part of the country and urged students to make good use of these libraries to develop their knowledge.
Mr. Turay emphasized that the books were well selected to fit the standard of the children and thanked the Union for their selection. He assured them that the items will be used for its intended purposes.
