Big fight at Library Board

Senior officials of the Sierra Leone Library Board are in tussle over who should be made Chief Librarian for Sierra Leone Library.

Findings have disclosed how Board Members of Sierra Leone Library engaged officials of Education Ministry, insisting that the former acting Chief Librarian Sallieu Turay (in center of photo) be demoted from the rank of Deputy Librarian to ordinary Principal Officer.

As Deputy Chief of Library, Sallieu was made the acting Chief Librarian after the removal of then substantive head.

Sources say Sallieu met his demotion shortly after the arrival of four containers of books donated to Sierra Leone by Children International USA.

The books, according to our findings, were to reach schools and tertiary institutions all over Sierra Leone.

The containers were cleared from Queen Elizabeth Quay II for onward distribution to rightful beneficiaries.

To the amazement of members of the Board of Sierra Leone Library, the book distributions came out with too many irregularities.

Books expected to reach beneficiaries at schools and colleges never reached them at all.

An investigation was later conducted and findings made known.

Sallieu, who was acting Chief Librarian, and whose responsibilities don’t have the touch of book distributions, was indicted by Board Members of Sierra Leone Library as having hands to flaws observed.

Inside Library sources articulate that the suspension and demotion of Sallieu was a conspiracy from among Board Members of Sierra Leone Library.

That he was victimized because he is not in the good books of some Board Members.

Investigation has shown that Sallieu contributes greatly in the enhancement of text books for schools, colleges and tertiary institutions countrywide.

He is said to be operating a book trust at Campbell Street and has several years been donating books to respective educational institutions in the country.

It has reached this press that the position of Chief Librarian has been advertised and persons have had their names short listed.

Sallieu is among the list of individuals already short listed for interview.

Correspondences sent to Board Members of Sierra Leone Library by officials of Education Ministry indicate that Sallieu’s demotion never pleased Minister Minkailu.

Unconfirmed information state that the present acting Chief Librarian, Isaac John, has been using monies left in funds of Sierra Leone Library for personal use.

It is also disclosed that Isaac John has little time for office duties and more for extravaganza activities.
