Mile 91 police crackdown on lawless okada riders

Mile 91, March 29 (SLENA) – The District Traffic Officer, Mile 91 Police Station in the Tonkolili District, Inspector Sahr Sokenah has arrested over 30 motor bikes or okadas for their disregard for law and order.

Speaking to the Sierra Leone News Agency in Mile 91 recently, Inspector Sokenah said the crackdown was as a result of the failure of the bike riders to insure or licence their bikes, adding that those arrested ride without wearing helmets. “Some don’t even wear shoes or dress decently,” the police officer said.

Other traffic police officers also told SLENA that okada riders don’t pay attention to road signs and do not observe speed limits.

Meanwhile, the head of Our Lady of Gradalupe clinic in Mile 91, Sister Ardriana Juarez has disclosed to SLENA that the patients can always see their doctors free of charge with no consultation fee.

“The patients can only pay for drugs and lab test, “she added, saying the clinic consists of many departments such as the pharmacy, the laboratory and labour room which have few rooms.

She said critical cases are referred to the Emergency Hospital in Freetown, Mabesseneh Hospital in Lunsar and the Masanga Hospital in Magburaka.
