Free WiFi for Salone to be launched

With the landing of the Fiber Optic and the advancement of the Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) in the country, Sierra WiFi will be launching its Free WiFi services in Sierra Leone to complement the efforts of government.

Addressing a cross section of the media at his 125 Wilkinson Road Office, Freetown, Sierra WiFi Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Melhen disclosed Sierra WiFi came to the country because of the landing of the fiber to enhance business solutions to companies, advancing IT development and working in line with government for the development of ICT.

CEO Anthony Melhen stated that Sierra WiFi has signed an MoU with government to provide Internet facilities to schools nationwide adding that the project was supported by Socfin and Close The Gap.

He further revealed that thousands of computers have been distributed to various schools in the western area as a way of creating WiFi system in schools so as pupils and students will be able to access internet facility in their schools.

He further stated that government initiated the project through the landing of the fiber optic and Sierra WiFi is the backup in the improvement of ICT.

Anthony Melhen said that their main objective is everyone in the country to have access to internet facility with a very reasonable prize.

He said that there are plans to also introduce public WiFi, a two way kilometer WiFi signal in seven major cities of the country like, Makeni, Bo, Kenema among other areas as it will be the fastest, high speed and 24 hours support storage backup.

He further revealed that Sierra Leone will be the first country in the world free WiFi and such will change the entire concept of ICT in the country.

He further highlighted the schools that are current benefiting from Sierra WiFi school project include; Vine Memorial, Congo Cross, St. Joseph, St. Edwards, Ahmadiya, Congress, Rokel, Girls High School among others.

Sierra WiFi Communication Director, Ishmael Bull said that the company is here to enhance better information, Communications and Technology nationwide.

Ishmael Bull stated that Sierra WiFi services are to work in collaboration with government institutions to create strong awareness and corporation in the ICT world.

He said there are plans to launch the Free Sierra WiFi services in December, 2013.
