Sierra Leone’s ambassador becomes dean of ECOWAS ambassadors

Ambassadors of ECOWAS countries based in Senegal has thought it fit to come together in the spirit of the ECOWAS Commission to further strengthen their countries diplomatic, bilateral and cultural ties for the total advancement and entire economic development of the Organization.

Ambassador Bassir while accepting the Seat thanked her colleagues for the confidence reposed in her and her country in particular. She paid tribute to the Spirit of the founders of the Organization and all those whom have in divers ways immensely contributed to making the ECOWAS Commission what it is today.

As a result, two newly accredited ECOWAS Ambassadors to Senegal from Bukina Faso H.E. K. Aline. Koala Kabore and that of the Republic of Guinea H.E. Mamadou Beau Keita after presenting their credentials to President Macky Sall, paid courtesy calls on Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir at her office in central Dakar.

Ambassador Keita congratulated the Dean on her position, noting that both Guinea and Sierra Leone shares borders with strong diplomatic and family ties.  He said the two countries are also members of the Mano River Union, African Union and the United Nations for which they all had made valuable contributions.

He promised to work closely with Ambassador Bassir to further strengthen the existing relationship between the two countries and that of the ECOWAS Commission.

For her part Ambassador Koala Kabore said she was there to further consolidate the diplomatic and bilateral ties between her government and that of the Government and friendly people of Sierra Leone. She promised her full cooperation and understanding during her tenure of office.

H.E. Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir, as Dean of ECOWAS Ambassadors in Senegal welcomed her colleagues to as she put it “The ECOWAS Family”. She noted that her country share strong ties with both Bukina Faso and Guinea and “we all exchanged goods and services”.

She called for regular meetings between them in Senegal. “In order for us as Ambassadors to be in a better position to advise our Governments” she said.

Ambassador Bassir promised to lead by example and cooperate fully with them all as ECOWAS Ambassadors to ensure that they all succeed during their tenure of office.

Also present at the meetings were the Head of Chancery Sahr Johnny and my humble self.
