Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Brussels returns home
Ambassador, Dr. Christian Sheka Kargbo (in photo) has finally left Brussels for Freetown, bringing to an end his five year tour of duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Commission.
He left Brussels yesterday, Friday, June 7th on board Brussels Airlines after surrendering his Diplomatic ID cards (including those of his dependants) that once guaranteed their diplomatic immunities in Europe.
Dr. Kargbo was also accredited to other countries including Netherland (Holland), France, Luxembourg and The Vatican (Italy). International Organisations assigned to him also include the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (ACP), International Criminal Court (ICC), International Court of Justice (ICJ), Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) in The Hague, Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), World Trade Organisation (WTO) to name but a few.
Dr. Kargbo will be succeeded by the veteran political guru of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC), Hon. Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, who is expected to assume duties by the end of June.
Before his retirement last year, Hon. Ibrahim Sorie holds the enviable record as the longest serving APC Parliamentarian (1982-2012), representing the Kambia Central Constituency in the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Born in Rokupr town, Magbema Chiefdom on April 6, 1949, Hon. Ibrahim Sorie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Diploma in Education (BA Dip.Ed) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, after completing his Secondary School education at the Kolenten Secondary School in Kambia and his Primary education at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic in Rokupr.
He also holds a Diploma in Management Studies from the Glasgow College of Technology, Scotland leading to the award of the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute by the Chartered Insurance Institute of London.
He briefly worked as Assistant Teacher at the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress and later at the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood; Marketing Officer and later Deputy Manager, Motor Insurance Department at the National Insurance Company, General Manager, Pauline Marie Trading Company; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources; Minister of State in the Ministry of Trade and Industry; APC Parliamentary Chief Whip; APC Party Chairman in the Kambia district; Focal Person EU/ACP Joint Parliamentary Assembly; Focal Person ECOWAS Parliament and many more accolades to his credit.
In April 2012, he was decorated by His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma with the National Honour Award of Commander of the Order of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the second highest civilian national award and appointed Justice of the Peace and Commissioner of Oaths.
Hon. Ibrahim Sorie is married with eight children.
