Intimidation, no intimidation, we are APC … says Sebgwema Women

On 22nd December, Hon. Robin Faley, popularly known as ‘Robinho’ was given a red carpet welcome by about a thousand grass root women dressed in their APC  ‘ashobi’ in Segbwema town.  (Photo: Segbwema mosque)

The women who have now strongly committed their political party loyalty to the APC openly paraded the streets of the township in their red colours singing, dancing, and praising their popular candidate and President Ernest Bai Koroma.

After parading with their APC strong man, they finally converged at the Segbwema community centre where various statements were made.

The chairlady, Madam Jenneh Sulleh, thanked Robin Faley for the relentless sacrifice he has made to the women and children of Njaluahun chiefdom and Kailahun district as a whole.

She said they decided to come out openly to show their strong solidarity for the APC and Hon. Robin Faley.

She furthered that it was disappointing that they didn’t have enough time to campaign, but those women who were brave enough came out in their numbers to fight against the ingratitude that was shown to Hon. Robin Faley by the SLPP, and that indeed they will stand by him throughout his political journey regardless of how rough it may be.

Madam Yeabu Abdulai, deputy women’s leader, expressed strongly that losing Hon. Faley as their MP was the biggest disappointment they are now faced with. She described Robin Faley as the most productive MP their constituency has ever had, and therefore appealed to him not to turn his back against them and to ensure that he continues to advocate and lobby for development for their constituency.

Hon. Faley in his keynote address, thanked the women for such a brave move that they have made to come out in such a great numbers to render support to him, President Koroma, and the APC party, despite the intimidation that they have faced during the campaign period. He expressed that President Koroma was indeed proud for the votes he got this time as against what he had in 2007. There was a considerable increase of over 25%, which was indeed a remarkable one.

Hon. Faley in his remarks furthered that the three thousand votes were indeed three thousand seeds that have been planted and those seeds would be given enough fertilizer and manure to ensure that they produce more viable ones.

He assured the women that all the promises made by H.E. President Koroma would be actualized and these include the establishment of cold storage facilities for fish and other dairy products so as to enhance the livelihood support for the women and also a source of nutrition.

The program ended with the women presenting Hon. Faley with gifts in the form of country clothes, goats and gallons of palm oil.

Madam Suna Lamin in her vote of thanks showered praises on their out gone MP for all the development projects he was able to facilitate for their communities in the areas of health, education, and infrastructural development etc.

She appealed to President Koroma not to let them down since as vulnerable women they have taken one of the biggest risks in their lives by coming out openly for the ruling APC party as against their traditional SLPP party. All they need is protection, security and support.

Dancing and singing climaxed the occasion.
