The National Publicity Secretary II of the ruling APC, Robin Faley (in photo) has accused Principals and Heads of schools of undermining Government policy.

He made this statement in an interview with this medium over the new education policy introduced by Government to strengthen the educational system in the country.

He blamed Heads of schools for the poor performance of pupils in public examinations, especially the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSSE) adding that Heads of schools have allowed most of the pupils to promote themselves to senior classes without the requisite qualification or grades, a development that have resulted to hundreds of pupils been unable to take the 2013-2014 BECE and WASSSE examinations thus the massive failure.

He further commended the Minister of Education, Dr. Minkailu Bah and team for challenging pupils to produce their original BECE results before they are admitted and allowed to take the forthcoming 2013-2014 WASSSE.

The former MP is known for his passion to promote quality education in the country as during his tenure in Parliament, he summoned the Minister of Education to explain the reasons for the poor standard of education in the country, one of the reasons Government established the Professor Gbamanja Commission of Inquiry to investigate the factors for the deteriorating standard of education in the country and make recommendations.

Furthermore, Mr. Faley has been very instrumental in advocating for support to girl-child education as he underscores that education is the key to development and highlighted Government’s immense support to education with plans for more investments.

According to Robin Faley, some school authorities put premium in financial gains to enrich themselves than promoting quality education thus destroying the future of the young generation and appealed to Government to ensure that the recommendations of the Professor Gbamanja Commission are implemented to the latter that would help improve the standard of education in the country.
