Deputy Health Minister 1 visits Cholera Emergency Centres
Freetown, July 25 (SLENA) – Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation 1, Tamba Borbor Sawyer has made an unannounced visit to the Cholera Emergency Preparedness Centres in four Government Health Facilities in Freetown to assess the current situation of affected victims.
At the Macauley Street hospital, the Doctor-in-Charge, Dr. Benson Parker who led the Deputy Minister to the Unit, disclosed that they have admitted 67 cases of cholera with two deaths reported.
He told the Deputy Minister that during the start of the outbreak, they were receiving many cases but with the hard work of health staff and partners including Medicos San Francaise (MSF) Belgium, they were able to address the situation to a satisfactory level.
Deputy Health and Sanitation Minister, Tamba Borbor Sawyer lauded the effort of the health staff and partners, and appealed to them to continue the good work to ensure that the situation is adequately put under control.
At the Connaught Hospital, the Sister-in-Charge, Duba Kamara disclosed 68 cases of suspected cholera with two deaths between July 11 and 18.
Mr. Sawyer commended the health workers for their efforts in putting the situation under control and cautioned them to put service above else.
At George Brook Community Health Centre, the Community Health Officer, Dr. Steven Kamara, briefed the Deputy Minister on 26 suspected cholera cases treated so far, confirming one death and five referrals.
The minister, in similar manner, visited the Kingharman Road hospital where cases were recorded with one death.
