Sabin Vaccine Institute Photo-Journalist visits Sierra Leone
Freetown, July 25 (SLENA) – Olivier Asselin, a Photo-Journalist from the Sabin Vaccine Institute/Sustainable Immunization Financing (SVI/SIF) has concluded a week-long visit to Sierra Leone to inspect and take photos of the Institute funded activities in Sierra Leone.
Senior Programme Officer, Sustainable Immunization Financing, Sabin Vaccine Institute, Dr. Clifford Kamara, accompanied Olivier Asselin to the Kroo Bay Community Health Centre and took photos. The Photo-journalist later held meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Health at Parliament Building, and was briefed by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mohamed A. Tarawalie on the mandate and functions of the committee.
In a brief remark, Dr. Clifford Kamara spoke mainly on the collaboration with the Parliamentary Committee on Health and the formation of the Parliamentary Sustainable Immunization Financing Forum.
As part of his visit, Olivier Asselin held meeting with the Programme Manager, Child Health/ Expanded Programme on Immunization (CH/EPI), Rev. Dr. Thomas T. Samba, and toured the National Cold Room, where he was briefed by the National EPI Logistician, Hassan Jalloh and also took pictures.
In concluding his field visit to health facility, the Photo-journalist visited the Tombo Community Health Centre and toured the community.
Earlier, accompanied by staff of Helen Keller International, Mr. Asselin traveled to Bombali district and visited the Masongbo Health centre and inspected the LF/Oncho patients, and proceeded to Kenema in Kandu Lekpeiyama chiefdom and observed how schistosomiasis is transmitted.
He also travel to Moyamba district and visited health centres and communities, and later visited Gbangbatoke village in the Lower Banta Chiefdom and observed people preparing “Garri”, a substitute to the country’s staple food.
Earlier, before undertaking his tour of various facilities in the health ministry, the photo journalist was first introduced at the Top Management Team meeting in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
