MUWODA promotes hygiene practice in schools

As part of complementing the ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the practice of hygiene education in schools, a local NGO operating in the East Muloma Women Development Association [MUWODA] in partnership with the ministry of Education has trained five primary schools on sanitation hygiene education in Kandu Leppiama chiefdom, Kenema district.

At the launching ceremony, councilor Paul Gbemeh thanked MUWODA for undertaking the positive steps in their community, adding since their intervention in the chiefdom with the implementation of the CLTS\SSHE they have contributed to reduced illness such as diarrhea, malaria, choleric and garbage exposed in their environments. 

The training of the children wills them to practice good health in and out of school and enables them to educate their parents in their home.

Given an overview of the organization, the assistant project coordinator MUWODA, Mohammed Nyakoi said MUWODA was formed by women after the war as they thought that women were more valuable and children and there is need to empower them to become self relianct in life.

He said the organization started as CBO and they were training on skills like tailoring, agriculture, gara dye and hairdressing.

Mr. Nyakoi said MUWODA has implemented projects for UNICEF, EU, IRC such as CLTS, SSHE and others and they are operating in Pujehun, Bombali, Kenema, and Kailahun district. The project coordinator MUWODA Sammuel Bangalie gave the overview of SSHE in schools and its importance that will bring to the children to learning in schools. 

Mr. Bangalie said SSHE will help to improve the health status of the children and help to educate their colleagues, adding the construction of latrines in schools will make their learning improved, and to implement it in the community.  He assured them that with more funding they will provide water wells and latrines for all the targeted schools.

The chiefdom speaker Kinawa Gbondo commended the MUWODA for improving the health condition of the chiefdom and assured the support of the chiefdom people to the work. Chief GBONDO called on the people to commit themselves to the work and not to use the children to do the labor. Launching of the program climaxed the occasion.
