Ghanaians boost healthcare
The Association of Ghanaian professionals in Sierra Leone on Thursday 8th March 2012 donated to the Ola During Children’s Hospital medical equipment for children as part of their country’s 55th independence celebration.
Donating the items on behalf of the association, the Ghanaian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Elizabeth Mills Robertson (in photo), said this was not the first time that GAP-SL has done such donations to children of Sierra Leone.
The donation came at a time when women across the world were commemorating International Women’s Day on March 8. According to the GAP-SL members this package is inclusive with that of the mothers who’s day was in commemoration.
The Ghanaian High Commissioner noted that the association decided to donate the medical equipment which included Stethoscopes and Blood Pressure Machines for both babies and infants. She said all the items are worth a little over 5 million Leones. Her Excellency Elizabeth Mills Robertson admonished the management and staff of the Ola During Hospital to handle the items with proper care and put them into their rightful uses.
Receiving the items, Professor Abiodu, a Consultant Pediatrician at the Ola During Hospital thanked the association for the kind gesture. She expressed appreciation and gratitude to the organization on behalf of the entire staff of the hospital.
She furthered that the government has lots of issues to attend to for which they cannot afford to provide everything at the same time. Therefore, she said these gestures are the ones which always have been complementing effort of the government.
She promised to handle the donated equipments with ultimate care and said they would be used for their right purposes.

Donated medical equipment is good but not everyone is willing or capable of donating so I think there should also be attention to used medical equipment becuase there is a nuch bigger market for it.
