Mohamed L Bah takes on his role as FPU President
At the recent Annual Fundraising Dance, held on December 31st 2011, at the Days Inn, Washington DC, the Fullah Progressive Union (FPU), Washington DC Metro Chapter, elected dynamic businessman Mr Mohamed L Bah (in photo) for president.
Following is the newly appointed President’s speech after which he received thunderous applause from the guests at the Annual Fundraising Dance:
“Distinguished guests, our sister chapters from the east and west coast, FPU members, ladies and gentlemen, it is with great honor I stand here tonight as your President elect, all praise and thanks to Allah for giving me the strength to lead a well structured and strong organization. This cannot be done without my very able and wise choice of our membership.
With that said, in recognition of one of our late founding fathers of the FPU, who passed away last year, I now extend my very special thanks to the community as a whole for your enormous support towards the family and the organization during the time of need. I can assure you that the effort of late lawyer Bah will never go in vain, for the simple fact that the Fullah Progressive Union is more important than any of its individual members.
Ladies and gentlemen, please let us stand and acknowledge a minute of silence in memory of late Alhaji Mohamed Sadu Bah, and all of our deceased F P U members who had served this Organization endlessly. Late Alphose Bah, Abdul Rahman Bah, Ibrahim Bah. (May their souls rest in peace).
And now as your president, I fully well know there are problems which need fixing. My number one priority is to maintain peace and unity within our organization, bridging the gaps and potholes among members, involving more so our young and able youth adults. The problems of FPU are over. Why? Because I am your president elect and change has come. My approach as your leader is to listen attentively to all members concerns.
I strongly believe in democracy, and that people should be able to use their voice respectively. What is needed in this organization is more cooperation from all members. Open communication as we know, is a gateway to build confidence and trust in our community and this is what I plan to implement in my year of my leadership.
My expectation for my role and social standards are very high. With your participation we can look forward to a very productive and joyous year together. You can help by providing me with your information that will aid me in bettering our organization. Please feel free to contact me about any question or concerns you may have.
With the advice of last Lawyer Bah I joined FPU and today I am very proud to announce that one of the most valuable legacies and assets attained from him is our prestigious Islamic school, in Lanham, and it is up and running as I speak. Now we need your help and all the funds necessary in moving forward.
As a leader, and devoted Muslim, tolerance and acceptance is vital element in human relationships, which brings me to talk about the four components of F PU to help us stay united. They are as follows: social, cultural, advocacy, and Islamic setting.
As head of the organization we can only benefit from the hard work of us all as members, and as change does not come overnight, I promise to reach out to each and every member in our community and beyond.
Lastly, to our community leaders, a very special thank you for your courage in bringing unity to our community, if you are here tonight, please stand up so we can recognize you.
To all of you who took the time to travel and be here with us especially our sister chapters, I say thank you.
I cannot close without acknowledge my predecessor who served this organization with excellence. I am more so grateful for my lovely family especially the enormous support from my lovely wife. To the hardworking men and women, of FPU, especially our devoted able women, thank you for making this event a success.
Happy new year to all.”
Mohamed L Bah, President, FPU
