13 District IT Channel Operators commence training
A total of thirteen District IT CHANNEL Operators are presently undergoing three-day training on Logistics Management Information System (LMIS)/CHANNEL at the conference room of the Central Medical Stores, New England in Freetown. (Participants at the training in Freetown)
The participants were updated on the objective of such training and the expected result after its completion, their roles in the control and distribution of reproductive health commodities through the innovative software called CHANNEL initiated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 2009.
On the even distribution and monitoring of reproductive health commodities in the Free Health Care scheme, participants were encouraged to be very vigilant, honest, hard working and patriotic in the execution of their duties.
Present at the training, Dr. Peter Sikana, Reproductive Health Technical Adviser – UNFPA, expressed the confidence reposed on this set of District IT CHANNEL Operators who have traversed thorough screening by an interview panel constituting officials of the Ministry of Health & Sanitation and UNFPA.
The participants are being guided on the steps involved in calculating and forwarding requests as useful skills in the execution of their duties and also to help harmonize the distribution chain of the reproductive health commodities from the Central Medical Stores to the District Medical Stores.
They were cautioned that if during the execution of their duties, they make wrong inputs, they are sure to get wrong outputs expanding further that if in the event that wrong requests are forwarded, wrong supplies will definitely fill the stores that would have a rippling effect on the Free Health Care scheme.
As proud baby trainees, these thirteen District IT CHANNEL Operators will, at the end of the training, receive posting directives to their various individual locations in the twelve districts of Sierra Leone and the Western Area.
Interactive sessions were eloquently dealt with at the opening courtesies including an overview of the logistics systems, Inventory Control System, identifying the key Essential Logistics Data, Stock Status Assessment & Analysis, Correct filling of LMIS Forms and Records.
Over the years, there have been challenges in the even distribution and monitoring of drugs from the Central Medical Stores to District Medical Stores, hence the timely intervention of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to fund such a training for District IT CHANNEL Operators to harmonize these challenges in order to ensure that the dream of His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, for a successful Free Health Care Scheme in Sierra Leone is realized at all levels.
The training continues today with a synopsis of Day 1 to be followed by an introduction to the Logistics Management Information System – CHANNEL; sample demonstration and exercises on a reference table i.e. distribution table, agencies, health supplies and groups, discussions, question and answer sessions.
