SLPP Or APC: Whose interest are they seeking?
When we vote people into power or a place of authority, are we not voting them in so that they seek our interest and represent us fairly?
Yes, we elect people into the seats of power with the primary motive that they represent us and make our communities and our country a better nation. At times, it baffles and sickens me when I see my compatriots Sierra Leoneans fussing and fighting over trivial issues.
My latest concern concerns the way and manner in which some Sierra Leoneans analyze and appreciate the recently released album by Emerson Bockarie, Sierra Leoneans Fela Anikulakpokuti, and titled “Yesterday Betteh Pass Tiday?
From my humble perspective, I do not know for you dear reader, the title of the album and which is the leading song sounds as a question and at the same time an opinion, and everybody is entitled to his or hers.
Sierra Leoneans must be reminded that this same piece was sung in 2007 election in another version known as the ‘Borbor Belleh’ fame which eventually saw the failure of Mr. Solomon Berewa making headway in the elections after having been ridiculed and lampooned in the title track ‘Bobor belle’ believed to have been the final straw that broke the back of the then ruling party.
When one pays a good ear to Emerson’s song, you would come to agree with me that it leaves no stone unturned. Emerson’s ‘Yesterday Betteh Pass Tiday’ touches every sphere of how government runs, be it in the past or in the present. He asks questions about the promises made to the politicians of this country which are yet to be fulfilled.
A line in one of his songs, saying: “They make us cry by turn” is enough to tell us that yesterday was not better than today in terms of comparison. Had it being that the previous ‘day’ was better than the present day, and then I see no reason to contemplate over Emerson’s new hit. Had the day before today was fine, be it 1961 when we gained independence or the eleven year rebel war, then that good old day(s)Â must have reflected itself on present day Salone.
As for me it makes no aorta of rational thinking or to be bothered over this fading song because as time passes it will just fade away as ‘Borbor belle’. Except with those political fanatics who might want to use it against their opponents, and to me it would only breeds deep seated grudge amongst vulnerable Sierra Leoneans.
Government comes and goes and we the people still remain to be electorates to these political demagogues who used and abused us to meet their selfish gains.
When must we learn our lesson? It would surprise many Sierra Leoneans to learn that these political gods that always set the platform for hatred amongst us are always in good terms when they meet in high places. Sometimes, I repeatedly ask myself who will redeem Mama Salone from these political devils?
We are always at their mercy like sheep among a pack of wolves. After political campaigns and elections instead of Sierra Leoneans pondering over development and the future of the nation, we are busy bent on tearing one another apart.
But it is never too late for us to depart from our bad ways and pray and invite the prescience of the good shepherd to save us from the paws and wrath of these maddening wolves. For the present, we can be likened to a lost sheep in the wilderness of Mama Salone.
In this entire situation, the question I will continue to ask is: SLPP and APC whose interest are they really seeking. Is it theirs or ours?
