Lungi Community Complains
Residents of Lungi are suffering a shortage of water due to Sierra Leone Water Company’s (SALWACO) disregard in the provision of good drinking water in communities around the forenamed area. Even though government has been empowering SALWACO in the provision of good drinking water, day in and day our, things continue to get worse.
Findings confirm that engineers have started work on the availability of water in areas around Rotifunk, Masoila, Maheira, Lungi Police Barracks and Lungi Government Hospital.
It was revealed to our reporter that the Lungi Police main water tank was dismantled by engineers appointed by SALWACO. According to a police officer (name withheld), it was disclosed that the manner in which SALWACO dismantled the police water tank was unprofessional and would likely not see it able to store water anymore.
It was further revealed that a few years back, a similar project was undertaken at Lungi Police Barracks but ended in a negative result.
As at press time, people in Lungi have asked government to urgently come to their aid or they will die due to water shortage.
They also condemned SALWACO’s stylized water project and called it a ‘no good’ for them.
Lungi presently suffers a drought of water thereby compelling the privileged to use ‘packet waters’ and the less privileged ‘well waters.’
