82 million for Bombali District

The Ministry of Mines working together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Rural Development has delivered a cheque for the sum of Le82,371,029 to the Bombali District Council and four mining chiefdoms inside the Bombali District.

According to the Ministries the money given to the district and chiefdoms is for development. One of the chiefdoms benefited from the money is the Sela Limba chiefdom, he said the money comes from gold and diamonds sold at the district over the past years.

The ceremony was held at the Makeni City Council conference hall where paramount chiefs, councilors and other community stakeholders at the district were present.

The Deputy Minister of Mines, Mr. Abdul Ngozi Koroma, said that they appointed him as minister to work for the people in this country. He further stated that some of the successes of the APC Government are the bringing of electricity, agriculture, and good roads to the people of Sierra Leone.  He said the government has done good things for Sierra Leone and that President Koroma has a vision, but this vision has to be supported by a nation.

Mr. Ngozi told the people that government has just signed a contract with African Minerals and they have paid $1 million as their annual license fee, and he said this money will have to increase as times goes on.

The paramount chief of Sela Limba chiefdom, Kandeh Luseni, gave thanks to the government and promised to do his best in continuing to serve the people and promised to use the money for the purposes it is intended.

One resident of Makeni, Pa M.C Conteh, expressed concern on the monetary system saying that the government of Sierra Leone has given this kind of money to the chiefdom and the district people and that they should try to establish officers to monitor the money and to track how they are using it so that the government does not waste it’s resources.
