London Mining rehabilitates first sets of defunct Delco buildings

The first of three apartments of the London Mining Staff Quarters have been officially handed over to the company by the contractors, Ali and Sons Construction through the Architect Sam McCarthy at a ceremony held on Thursday 29th July 2010 at the Mines Site in Lunsar, Port Loko District.

The handing over was an indication that London Mining was well within schedule to meet its target date of first shipment in the 1st quarter of 2011.

The consulting firm headed by Architect Sam McCarthy took the Managing Director, Mr. David Keili and team to inspect the three completed apartments.

During the inspection of the buildings, Mr. McCarthy explained that the building was reconstructed on an open system as the contractor took cognizance of the future. He continued that each of the buildings consist of two self-contained bed rooms with necessary modern facilities which include air condition, a sitting room, guest toilet and a kitchen.

He added that each of these buildings can be initially utilized by two guests, but can later be used for a single family.

After the inspection, the keys for the three apartments were officially handed over by the contractor Ali Mamoud to Mr. Keili through the architect Mr. McCarthy.

Upon receiving the keys, Mr. Keili expressed satisfaction over the way and manner in which the work was quickly done. In trying to be realistic, he graded the contractor with 85% for the perfect work. He added that the completion of these buildings clearly indicated that London Mining has reopened the defunct Marampa mines.

He wrapped up by saying that everybody must realize that London Mining Sierra Leone is here to complement the efforts of London Mining Plc, the Government and other stakeholders who in various ways contributed to make this dream a reality.

While handing over the keys to the Facility Manager, Mr. Syl Kanu, the Managing Director warned users to take good care of the facilities.

The Facility Manager Mr. Kanu thanked Mr. Keili, the contractor, the community and the rest of London Mining staff for such a laudable achievement. He promised to handle the buildings with utmost care, and assured the general staff that the keys will be given to those officially allocated to them.

The Managing Director of Ali & Sons Construction Company, Ali Hamoud said he felt extremely honoured for the applause giving to him by the Managing Director and the general staff members of London Mining Company. He added that any responsible and focused company must always try to live up to standards. He concluded that the 85% giving to him will be surely improved in subsequent contracts, and assured London Mining of getting much better of his company’s work.

At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Keili inspected the ongoing rehabilitation work on the 48 single bed room apartments which contract was awarded to BREAT Construction Company. Mr. Keili urged the contractors to do the work in a diligent manner, and to make sure that work ends within the giving time frame, which is December 2010.
