Salone Poets Go International

Sierra Leonean poets have received international recognition as their poems have been accepted by leading United States publishers who will soon get their anthology published in the USA, Sierra Express Media has been informed.

Although Falui poets have had their poems published in an anthology; ‘Songs That Pour The Heart’ this is the first time that an international recognized publishing company has accepted their work which will be published internationally.

Individually, some of the poets have had their collection of poems published locally. These include Elvis Gbanabom Hallowell, Omar Farouk Sesay and Professor Kosonike Kossoh-Thomas.

The present publishers have published works by internationally renown poets and writers not only in the US but from other parts of the world.

The new collection which will be titled: Kalashnikov in The Sun” taken from Tatafway Tumoe’s poem is expected to be distributed world wide. The book will also be distributed all over the world in bookshops and libraries as it showcases talents in Sierra Leone.

Work is currently going on the book.

Other poets whose works will be in the anthology include Rev. Moses Kainwo, Tatafway Tumoe, Sydnella Shooter, Johnathan Kpakiwa, Mohamed Gibrill Sesay, Jeelo Kainwo, Thomas Kpukumu, Ambrose Massaquoi, Nathaniel Pearce, Musu Sandy, Ousman Barrie, Tom Courray, Beatrice Chaytor, Raymond de’ Souza George, Bridgette Olamide James, Wiltshire Johnson Srn, Eldrige Jones and Daphne Kaikai.

This is the first time that young Sierra Leonean poets have had their work published collectively by an international publisher. “This will go a long way in showcasing the works of our poets and to ensure that they also get international recognition and it makes me proud that our own talents are gaining recognition globally” said Adeyemi Paul, publisher of Sierra Express Media, and an avid writer residing in the United States.

The anthology will be used in schools as well as in universities worldwide.
