Youths are worried in Sierra Leone

Dear Editor : Please give me space to air my view on a matter that is seriously affecting we the youths in Sierra Leone.

Youths are worried over the way and manner the government of this country is operating in terms of issue affecting the youths of this country. Youths are the strong foundation stone of any country that wants to re-brand in image. When President Ernest Bai Koroma took office he said he will empower the youth and also to be committed to the affairs of youth in this country and would ensure that the National Youth Commission is set up when all infrastructural and administrative arrange are put in place.

After two years in power, the APC has not kept its promise of increasing youth employment instead the condition of the youth is continuing to go down. Eighty percent of the youth in this country are unemployed and the Commission the President said he will set up is a dormant Commission because the politicians who are supposed to pass these laws do not seek the interest of the youths.

The youth of this country do not know what this so called National Youth Commission is doing? Can the commission perform the main purposes of its functions or will it be led mostly by people who are seeking employment for their personal interest, rather than the general interest of all the youths in the country.

As a National Commission that would seek the total interest of the youth all over the country, the youths of this country are reminding the president not to forget the promise he made to them.  The government must put all modalities in place, to ensure that the National Youth Commission is working in the best interest of the youths. If not the youth of this country will start holding the government accountable.
