Police Aid Armed Robbers’ Escape

Reports reaching Sierra Express Media indicate that some police officers attached to the Kissy Police Station have allegedly aided the escape of two armed robbers from police cell.

According to sources, the two suspects, Alhassan and Derrick of New Site, Kissy were arrested on the 20th May 2010 at the Eastern Paddy’s Night Club where one of them was seen putting on one gold chain belonging to the complainant Ibrahim Bangura of No. 3 Easton Street.

Prior to their arrest, the suspects were alleged to have broken and entered into the shop of the complainant at No. 30 Personage Street, Kissy on the 14th May 2010 and reportedly carted away items estimated at $15,000 including his gold necklace.

The complainant, Ibrahim Bangura told Sierra Express Media that one day after he arrived from Banjul with new stock, such as electronics, women’s and men’s wear, he off-loaded the items into his shop. Few days later the two suspects allegedly broke into his shop and carted away thousands of US dollars worth of items.

“Upon the discovery that my shop has been looted, I reported the matter at the shell New Road Police Post and couple of days later I went to the Eastern Paddy’s where I saw one of the suspects, Alhassan putting on my gold chain,” Ibrahim pointed out.

He said with the help of the club manager the suspect was arrested with the gold necklace and using it as exhibit he took it to the Kissy police station where they later escaped with the help of some police officers.

The complainant disclosed that two days after their escape from police cell, they raided the complainant’s residence at No. 3 Easton Street armed to the teeth and looted items such as DVDs, mobile phones, shoes, etc., estimated at millions of Leones.

This time around the complainant reported the matter at the Eastern Police station. Police later raided the residence of one of the suspects and discovered some of the missing items with one of the suspects’ mother, Madam Gloria Johnson. The police then arrested the mother and later charged her to court.

Meanwhile, some residents in the community have accused some of the officers attached to the Kissy Police station of complicity in the matter by aiding the suspects to escape from police cell and for doing little to re-arrest them. 

Also the Councilor of Ward 101, Salaam is also accused of conniving with the police to prevent the re-arrest of the suspects, adding that the councilor and the police officers know fully whereabouts of the suspects, could do nothing to re-arrest them.
