Egerton University clinches Zain Africa Challenge – Season Four
The Zain Africa Challenge, the University battle of brains on Wednesday 9th June 2010 came to a dramatic end with Egerton University of Kenya clinching the prestigious prize of $50,000 for their University and $5,000 in individual prizes.
This was a fierce contest between the two Kenyan Universities, i.e. Egerton and Africa Nazarene.
This season four of the competition recorded the highest Anglophone University representatives in which 100 of them took part. The grand competition took place in Kampala, Uganda in which two of our own Universities; Njala University and University of Sierra Leone participated, though they left the scene in the second rounds, taking with them $10,000 each for their Universities and $1,000 as individual prizes. The Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation aired the show.
The objective of the Zain Africa Challenge is to develop the intellect of Africa’s youth and highlight the excellent educational opportunities that African Universities offer to its citizens. The questions in the fast-paced quiz programme cover a wide range of topical areas including: history, science, African culture, geography, literature, music and current events.
Zain Africa Challenge has grown more interactive for players, university administrators, alumni and the viewing public with a presence on both Facebook and Twitter. Join the community to stay in touch. Subscribers can also play the game on Facebook in which case, a winner stands to win 1,000 units of air time.
In the case of the Home Viewer Game, over 40 people have won Nokia N97 mini with each one valued at $600. Subscribers participated in this game by answering questions and sending text to 600.
