Njala ZAC participants celebrate with Zain
On Tuesday 13th July 2010, Zain distributed prizes to the Njala University at their new campus situated at Henry Street for their commendable effort in the Zain Africa challenge (ZAC).
The prizes included Zain modems with internet paid for a full year, two desktops, twenty-two gigabytes flash drives, $1,500 each for fulfilling the Ultimate Challenge, 3000 units each and papers for multi purposes.
In her statement, Ms. June Rose, Corporate Executive, Zain said it was very easy to criticize the participants but maintained that even though they did not make it to the finals they have done Zain and Sierra Leone proud.
She referred to Zain as a big supporter of education, adding that Zain has spent a total of $1million on the ZAC and will spend more as the company believes education was the answer.
Warmly addressing the crowd, Mr. Kelvin Kellie, Head of Corporate Affairs Zain, expressed his pleasure and congratulated the students for making Sierra Leone proud.
“Today is a powerful testimony of Zain’s hard work and love for its customersâ€, he said, re-affirming Zain’s corporate relationship with Njala which he said “started yesterday, continues today and will still exist tomorrow.â€
Ever a corporate man, Mr. Kelvin Kellie also mentioned the Fambul Tariff and urged students to join Zain for ‘more talk for less cash.’ “Whatever you bring in, we give back to you in forms that will enhance your livesâ€.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, Prof. Abu Sesay underscored the relevance of education, noting that many people believe education means getting good grades in school but in the process leave with little information about the world.
He expressed his gratitude to Zain for as he put it, opening and broadening his students’ horizons.
He also commended the participants for taking part in such an important international competition. “I felt proud seeing my students on TVâ€.
He assured Zain that his students will improve if given another opportunity next time.
In his expression of gratitude, the Dean spoke of his desire is to make Njala University the No.1 in Sierra Leone. “It not an easy fight but we’ll fight to win if only my students would stand tall with me,†he declared.
He thanked Zain for being a good partner, noting that anybody can claim to be interested in education but Zain talks and acts which cannot be said of others. “You are a good partner, I cannot think of one better. I’ve been around the world trying to build partnerships, but there’s none I treasure more than Zainâ€, he warmly added.
He assured Zain that no other mobile communications company will come between and vowed to go further in the next ZAC. Â
