Witch hunt – APC to Prosecute Maada Bio
Chief Spokesman for the ruling All People’s Congress APC) has told media men that the executioners of Bambay Kamara, Sally Kuppa and others, executed under the NPRC government once led by the now SLPP Aspirant Julius Maada Bio will likely be brought to book as according to him the trial of the death of these people was very much unjust.
The Minister of Information and Communication Ibrahim Ben Kargbo made this statement on Thursday 27th May 2010 at the information weekly press briefing on the 8th Floor of the Youyi building in Freetown.
He made this disclosure as a result of pressure of human right agencies and family members, for government to allow the judiciary to re-examine the trial of the late Bambay Kamara, Sally Kuppa and others. The execution of these people was done in June 1992 after the NPRC took over governance from the then APC government led by late Joseph Saidu Momoh.
He noted that family members, relatives, and friends of these late people are pressuring the government for their case to be called again in court and reexamined as there are mixed feelings that the trial was not conducted in a just and fair manner
He revealed that their government believe in the principle of the rule of law and democracy that was the reason why they are giving the Attorney General the free hands to look over the matter and give qualitative evidence of the case because their government wants to lay the matter of these people to rest by allowing the judiciary to dispenses proper justice on the case.
He continued to express that the calling of the matter back to court after 12 to 13 years being laid to rest by the former Attorney General Solomon Berewah former vice president and flag barrier of the SLPP party is to give the constitutional right to the family members of those people as they have demanded to know what resulted to the killing of these people as they were not satisfied about how these people were killed. He said the re-examination of the trial was not to create a room for any witch hunt but to allow justice to prevail.
The late Bambay Kamara was Chief CID Officer during Momoh’s government. After the NPRC overthrew president Momoh they formed a commission of enquiry and this commission indicted Bambay and others that eventually led to their death.
