British Army Chief visits Sierra Leone

Confirmed reports reaching Sierra Express Media reveal that Chief of the General Staff of the British Army, General Sir David Richards (in photo) has paid a three day visit to Sierra Leone on issues relating to British Military interest in the country.

General Richards was in the country to assess the progress made so far with the initiatives of the British Army ten years back. General Richards told journalists at a news conference that he was proud of the work of his men in Sierra Leone and was impressed with the discipline, leadership and morale of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, RSLAF.

The General (then a Brigadier) who led the British intervention force about ten years ago said there were no indications that the new Conservative-Liberal Democratic government in the United Kingdom, would withdraw its support to Sierra Leone. He said the International Military Advisory and Training Team. IMAAT is a symbol of long-term support to the RSLAF. General Richards revealed plans to further strengthen the naval wing of the RSLAF in order to prevent illegal fishing activities and smuggling.
