RSLAF to grow what they eat

Responding to an interview after presentation at the just concluded 2018 budget discussion held at Miatta Conference Center in Freetown, Director of Logistics in the Ministry of Defense (MOD) , Colonel Dauda Alpha said they have qualitative human resource within the army to boost the country’s agriculture sector but they lack the requisite support adding that they will become self-sustained if their agricultural projects keep running.

According to Colonel Alpha, their short term plan is to grow what they can eat while their long term plan is to grow abundant crops and present them to the market for sale through mechanized farming and he emphasized on how Liberia Armed Forces Agricultural Unit is well equipped by the Government.

He described the lack of requisite machinery within SLA forces Agriculture Unit to yield good dividend as one of their biggest challenges adding that the process of acquiring land among locals in farming communities is another challenge and emphasized on the importance attached for us to be able to grow our own food as a nation so that we can depend on locally grown rice and other crops.

He pointed out that the total budget allocation released to the Ministry of Defense (MOD) for recurrent expenditure in 2016 financial year was Le 162.7b
