Sam Sumana receives hero’s welcome

Proving the point that he is in charge and in control of Kono District in the eastern region, droves of residents defied the heavy down-pour to give a hero’s welcome to a son of the land, former Vice President Alhaji Sidique Sam Sumana.

Chief Sam Sumana arrived in Kono on Friday, 19th August 2021 to grace the funeral of the late Ambassador Tamba Ngegba in the capacity of chief mourner.

Despite his messages to restrain his people prior to his departure from coming out in their numbers, his arrival consumed the entire township like wild fire in the harmattan.

Both the aged and the young across the gender spectrum jumped to their feet to have a glimpse of their political leader, shouting “Akuneh Akuneh”, which is interpreted as the “head”, referring to the former Vice President as their undisputable political figure head in that part of the country.

By all indications, it is clear that Chief Sam Sumana carries the day in the current political dispensation in the diamond rich district, despite the many forces fighting him. “No political rival can stand the way of Chief Sam Sumana in the politics of Kono. He is the most popular politician in Kono and has what it takes to deliver the district and beyond to the All Peoples Congress (APC) party without any iota of doubt”, said Alhassan Kanu, a grass roots APC political activist in the mines, adding that a Sam Sumana Presidential candidacy is the only option to take the Party to State House in 2023.

“We cannot afford to be in opposition after 2023 by presenting the wrong candidate”, said a member of the Big-Six, who prefers anonymity.

Even though his political rival for front runner of the party was also in Kono with the full support of the Regional Chairman Eastern Region, Diana Konomani, Dr Samura Kamara’s presence was obscured by supporters of Chief Sam Sumana.
