Race intensifies for SLPP chairman as Prince Harding Grabs Freetown Central District

There was jubilation in the Prince Harding camp in Freetown, when news broke out that one of his staunch supporters, Mr Gerald Nahbay of Circular Road, had been elected chairman of the Freetown Central District for SLPP.

The election of Mr Nahbay as chairman of the Central District of Freetown is very crucial to the ongoing camping for election of SLPP National Chairman. This is because the district is the barometer of a political part, which measures the popularity of a candidate in the western area and by extension the country at large. It comprise the central one constituency, which was the political base of the late Alfred Akibo-Bett of the APC, and the former Freetown Central two constituency which was the political base of Emmanuel O Grant of SLPP. Nahbay’s victory has worried the Batilo Songa camp due to the strong signal that the two constituencies of the district would vote for Dr Harding at the party’s national convention.

Mr Nahbay was one of those humiliated at the SLPP headquarters when water some say urine, was poured on Dr Prince Harding and one lady referring to the former as “Prince Harding’s man”.

One thing that is now worrying the Batilo camp is that the West, East and Rural districts of the Western Area would now toe the line of the Freetown Central District.

Speaking to this medium, Mr Nahbay said, “Someone told us to support Dr Harding in 2018, so if that person wants us to back someone else, let him come and tell us the reason for his change of decision”.

The election of Mr Gerald Nahbay in Freetown Central District as chairman for SLPP has also made his telephone not to rest as the forerunners for Western Area chairman Hon Manso Dumbuya and Brima Keita kept calling him for each of them to be assured that he would support them at the National Convention, which would be held in December this year if the numbers of Covid-19 cases drop.

Meanwhile, President Bio has, in an SLPP NEC meeting condemned those who misbehaved to Dr Prince Harding and while apologizing to him on behalf of the party, he assured Harding that those responsible would be brought to book.
