Female cricketers start training for NWACC tournament in Gambia
Female Cricketers in Sierra Leone have started training for the North-West Africa Cricket council NWACC) female tournament in Gambia August 2010. The tournament was first schedule to take place in Gambia Last December 2009. But because of some constrains the Africa Cricket Association body decided to push the tournament to August 2010. The above competition will be the first ever female cricket tournaments organize in the North-West Africa region. In all seven countries will be involved in the competition.
The seven are, Sierra Leone Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameron, Mali and Morocco. Talking to this page at the National Stadium the female cricketers said they are determined to make history beingthe first female cricket team to win the first female competition in the region. They went on that their aim is not only to win the above competition but to take Sierra Leone to the world cup. In addressing the female cricketers the president of the association Bourns Coker advised the Ladies to take the rules of the game into consideration.
This he said discipline is the paramount thing each player should maintain. The presidents also inform them to make use of this opportunity and make Sierra Leoneans proud. The associations have also appointed coach Koko to train the team for the above competition. Meanwhile the coordinators of female cricket in the association, Bockarie Alieu have said that the girls are highly determined and he believes they will return home with champion trophy. But he appeal to business houses and individuals to help the girls in their preparation. Â
