Masorie Valentine Market Women Extols SLPP District Chairman
Hundreds of market women at the newly established Masorie Valentine Market have heaped praises to the Sierra Leone Peoples Party Western Area Rural District (WARD) Chairman, Habib Thorpe for providing them with Conducive trading centre to deal in their businesses with no course to complain. Responding to an interview with this reporter, Chairlady for the said market, Isatu Kargbo expressed gratitude to the WARD Chairman for creating such opportunity for them as women, noting that although they are experiencing low turnout of buyers for the fact that she said, it is new market.
Responding on how they are preventing the Corona Virus Disease (COVID 19), Madam Kargbo described the pandemic as real and admonished buyers to continue practicing preventive measures to quickly contain the pandemic and requested responsible authorities to provide them with preventive materials, especially Veronica buckets, chlorine and face masks.
As a means to put stringent measures, Madam Kargbo said, they are not allowing any buyer or visitor to enter the market without face mask and proclaimed that Habib Thorpe has done a remarkable thing which they would always remembers. She pointed out that five communities made up the Masorie Valentine Market, including Masorie itself, Matainkay, Sansan Ground, Kissy Town and beyond.
Another business who is dealing in icicles, Mr. Abdulai Abass Musa Koroma demonstrated gratefulness to Mr. Thorpe for the establishment of the market and advanced that because the market is new, they are experiencing low sales despite their prices are equally comparable to the 555 Market and other areas.
A Fish Monger, Marie Jalloh stated that they are suffering and called on Government and stakeholders to think about them as women, adding that they have not enough money to run their businesses successfully. She encouraged community inhabitants to own the market because she said, it was established for the benefit of all community members.
Mbalu Kargbo complained that sales is not easy because it is a newly opened market, advancing that they are happy with Mr. Thorpe for the fact that because of the formation of the market, they are now keeping themselves busy at their business centers than to always sit at home, doing nothing. She said expressed disappointment that buyers are not turning up to the market instead they preferred to go to the 555 Market to buy businesses and concluded that they have been observing all regulations set aside by health experts to prevent the spread of COVID 19.
In another development, Mr. Thorpe is currently constructing a community primary school for the benefit of the outlined areas to ensure that children are not sitting at home idly but they should go to school.
