KKY Calls For National Cohesion in Sierra Leone

No matter how other political party leaders and supporters may look at it, the manner in which the main opposition and majority party in Parliament, All Peoples Congress (APC) boycotted the state opening of the Second Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone does not only panic the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party but also sent shockwaves and a bad signal that the country is politically divided.

All 67 APC Members of Parliament walked out the well of Parliament on Thursday May 2nd, 2019 in their red hats protesting against the undemocratic manner President Julius Maada Bio is governing the country whilst singing their party’s victory song.

The cat must be let out of the bag; APC boycott which left the well of Parliament almost empty showed that President Bio led SLPP can’t succeed without working in collaboration with opposition parties.

This situation has therefore triggered the energy revolutionist, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, the leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) who has said that though it is the political right of any opposition party in Sierra Leone to walk out of Parliament if condition is not favorable as was done by the SLPP during the era of former President Koroma, but there is need for national cohesion.

He frankly stated that SLPP will not succeed without national cohesion and wished that the proposed Bintumani III Conference be able to bring together and unite all political actors for sustaining peace, development and freedom for all.
