Police Conduct Workshop For LPPB Volunteers in Sierra Leone
As on Thursday 24th January 2019, the Director of Community Affairs in the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), AIG, Edward Kalia Sesay has in a press conference held at the police headquarter, George Street in Freetown, that from the 31st of January to the 1st February 2019, the management of the SLP will kick start a two days’ workshop on professional policing, accuracy, effectiveness among others for Local Police Partnership Board (LPPB) Members across the country. According to the Director, the move was to engaged the nation on the important of community policing, adding that the workshop will target all communities across the country with exclusive youth training programmes on security alertness at the Police Training School (PTS) , which is now been transform to Peace Keeping Mission Training School in Jui.
AIG Kalia Sesay said the objective of the workshop is to strengthen cordial relationship between the police, media and the community adding that the work of the SLP is to protect lives and properties of the state. He advised members of the fourth estate to always check on the SLP Website for credible update and other relevant issues relating to the safety of the nation.
“We are organizing this all important workshop for LPPB to bring sanity to our communities with regards quality community security policies “, AIG Kalia Sesay.
He added that the workshop will address key issues like review of the LPPB document, nothing that the training will also focus on capacity building for young people in Sierra Leone by experienced security experts on Security Management System and ICT improvement.
Director Sesay further emphasize that, the workshop will be a platform for capacity training on peace building with other physical and moral trainings for LPPB members.
In another development ,AIG Kalia Sesay has disclosed that,before now the SLP is now providing uniforms for it personnel with the establishment of a standard Garment Factory at Kingtom in Freetown for the production of Police Uniforms in large quantities whether for peace keeping mission or for domestic patrols and that the Factory is also capable of producing quality service delivery to colleges ,schools, vocational training centres, universities, churches, mosques, among others while he call on the general public to contact the management of the Sierra Leone Police whenever they want the service of the Factory because according to him ,he said the Garment Factory is also operating a commercial based system to generate revenue for the SLP.
Again when asked by Journalists as to why the delayed in the recent police recruitment process? AIG Kalia Sesay responded positively that the management of the Sierra Leone Police has already put mechanism in place to fast track the short listening process of qualify citizens within the next two weeks .He said the process has stiff format to follow until the final scrutiny at PTS and that every year SLP will ensure that they retired old personnel and bring in young blood into the force.
Director Kalia appealed to the general public to always check the SLP Website or visit the police headquarter for current happenings on security matters and assured the public on national security arrangement.
