The three day Consultative Meeting held in Ouagadougou attracted 46 experts from the ECOWAS Member States, among them the Senior Gynecologist Obstetrician Specialist of the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) and Leading Expert in Cervical Cancer from Sierra Leone, Dr. Alimamy Philip Koroma and the Director of Non-Communicable Diseases, Ministry of Health and Sanitation and National Focal Point in Sierra Leone Dr. Santigie Sesay.

The Senior Gynecologist Obstetrician Specialist and Leading Expert in Cervical Cancer Dr. Alimamy Philip Koroma said the three day Consultative Meeting was organized by the West African Health Organization (WAHO) to map out the needed actions to accelerate the prevention and control of Cervical Cancer in the ECOWAS Region.

He said the 46 Experts drawn from the 14 ECOWAS countries were able to discuss evidence-led and sustainable approaches to accelerating the Prevention and care of Cervical Cancer.

Cervical Cancer remains a leading cause of deaths among women in Africa. Despite the efforts, many ECOWAS Member States have not instituted a vaccination programme against the virus that causes it or a systematic screening to detect its precursors early. It is against this background that WAHO organizes the regional consultative meeting inviting 46 experts from 14 ECOWAS countries in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
