Yumkella – A first time voter to vote for himself
It is widely argued that one cannot talk of first time voters in Sierra Leone without mentioning the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) for the fact that he has admitted on several occasions in many media interviews that the March 7th 2018 general elections will mark his first time since the sixties to vote for any politician in an election.
It is crystal clear that KKY now eagerly wants other people to vote for him because he is definitely going to vote for himself but the one million dollar question is that how the majority of Sierra Leoneans are going to vote for a man who have publicly confessed that he has never voted for any politician in this country throughout his service as a global citizen?.
It is very sad on the side of the former UNIDO Boss to make such a public pronouncement but the other point of argument is that, what has KKY has done for this nation throughout the decades he has been working as an authority with the international community that will convinced citizens to cast their votes on his favor?.
This should have been his time if he was elected as the Standard bearer of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) but for the fact that Mr. Kandeh Yumkella is leading a baby party which was born few months ago, he will find it exceptionally tedious to win the Presidency of this nation at this point in time.
Although KKY is busy making propaganda that he is going to create changes if he becomes the next President of Sierra Leone but people didn’t understand the kind of changes the former UN energy revolutionist is talking about when Sierra Leone is now proud of durable road infrastructures, sustainable energy supply, health centers with equipped laboratory, increasing salaries of workers to minimum wage, contributing to the international peace keeping process, agriculture among others.
Other school of thoughts advanced that KKY is so much ambitious to participate in the forth coming presidential, parliamentary, mayoral and council elections because he knows that he is going to vote for himself and other candidates of his party.
Is this the kind of leadership that the country is searching for when he has demonstrated that he lacks the passion for the total development of the country except for self-prosperity?
Many supporters of the NGC are blaming their flagbearer for uttering such a detrimental statement which have left many people especially other first time voters with no option but to disassociate them from KKY’s ideology and support other outstanding and successful political parties.
In that regard, the public is hereby advising KKY to vote wisely in the secret ballot box so that he can vote correctly for himself to avoid void vote as in the case of the PMDC Presidential candidate in the 2012 election, Lawyer Francis Charles Margai who scored zero vote in the pooling station he voted together with his family.
