Letter to Abdul Tejan-Cole

Mr. Abdul Tejan Cole
Former Commissioner
Anti Corruption Commission
Republic of Sierra Leone

Dear Sir,

Your resignation and its aftermath

In reference to your letter of resignation addressed to His Excellency our President which has been published in online newspapers, I wish to seize this opportunity on behalf of all patriotic Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad, to write you this letter with the hope that it would meet you wherever you are in good condition of health.

Mr. Cole Sir, your resignation hasn’t only thrown an excruciating pain through our spines, but it also left us with series of ugly puzzles that nobody can solve except yourself.  You have made yourself a schoolteacher, the whole country and its diplomatic allies your pupils as you force them through your Letter and method of Resignation, to ponder a situation you suppose to have made simple. These puzzles are not only affecting we the ordinary citizens but they are also affecting our President and his entire administration and all key players who are working tirelessly to retrieve our country from the ash and debris of poverty.

It’s in view of the above that I’m requesting your clarification on the following points:

Post-dated Resignation Letter:  Given the fact that corruption is underlined by the whole world as the number-one disease that is destroying the socio-economic fabric of the African continent in general and the Sierra Leonean community in particular, Mr. Cole Sir, you will agree with me that your former position as Commissioner of ACC was not only esteemed but also holy as you accepted the responsibility to rescue our nation from such a dangerous disease.   Therefore, if you were really patriotic as you appeared to be, you shouldn’t have relinquished such a position with a post-dated letter.  It is believed that you had left the country on the 3rd May post-dating your resignation letter on the 7th May, which causes every concern party to question your dignity and sincerity.

Could you please explain why the letter has to be post-dated?

Basis of Resignation:  your resignation had caused many concern parties to jump into conflicting conclusions. Some says you were harassed by disgruntled supporters and family of the former Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Haja Afsatu Kabba after you charged her to court; some says your effort in discharging your duties were frustrated by direct interference of the power above; others says you had fled from your shadow after you had abused your office by hunting down selected innocent dignitaries including Haja Afsatu Kabba; some simply say you had decided for a bigger offer because you were underpaid for the herculean  job of heading the ACC. In your resignation letter however, you stated: “Since last year, I had indicated to Management and to the Chair of the Advisory Board my desire to relinquish my position as Commissioner.  For a number of reasons, I continued until present”.

Could you please set the record straight by telling us the reasons you had wanted to resign since last year and the “number of reasons” you had continued the job till 7th May?.

It seemed as if you had intentionally wanted to dramatize the situation in order to make yourself a shining icon.  And the only way you can retain your hard earned reputation and become that shining icon is to clear the airwave as soon as possible by making an official statement about your resignation.  Failure to do so, we your compatriots will ever remain to describe you as an opportunist who had chosen wealth over his homeland, or a coward soldier who had disguised himself  over the years in a hero’s combat.

Yours Sincerely,

Othman Sheriff, Berlin, Germany
