CDS highlights problems of RSLAF
The six-day visit of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Chief of Defense Staff (CDF) and entourage to various brigades and battalion under command has left them with keen insight into the challenges faced by the troops, Sierra Express Media can reveal.
According to public service announcement issued yesterday by the Directorate of Public Relations and Information in the Ministry of Defence, the CDS, Lieutenant General John E. Milton and entourage on Tuesday 4thAugust 2016, departed from Freetown to address troops at different brigades and battalions under command.
During the visit, the CDS assured troops of His Excellency and Commander-in-Chief, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s confidence in them.
He confirmed that the President is well pleased with their professionalism and discipline, while he advised them to continue their exemplary work and exercise patience despite the numerous challenges.
Lt. Gen. John E. Milton disclosed that the purpose of his visit was to get first-hand information from the troops after his new appointment so as to execute his task in a diligent and well prioritized manner.
The visit, though, left the CDS and entourage with keen insight into the challenges surrounding the troops.
Amongst other things, the Military Chief was able to sense that the troops’ problems were unique, ranging from poor accommodation, peace support operations, delay in regular supply of uniforms, Terms and Conditions of Service (TACOS), vehicle constraints, poor health facilities and education.
Lt. Gen. Milton also noted that the Armed Forces Agricultural Unit (AFAU) has a distinct challenge of being unable to carry out large-scale agricultural activities to meet their demand for self-sufficiency.
